Here at Cornerstone we believe in reaching the community where God has placed us. We do many things in and for our community each year. Our yearly Christmas musical is free and shares the gospel of Christ and the message of Christmas in a powerful way. We sponsor Refuge, a Young Adult ministry that reaches out to young adults aged 18-30 in the area. We have seen over 75 young adults attend. We have held 4th of July SonJam festivals that fed over 1300 people a free meal with music, games for kids, face painting etc. We've participated in Habitat for Humanity builds, served at the House of Pride, and hosted dinners for the homeless, among many other things. Listed below are ways to get involved currently; check back often to see what new opportunities arise!
Interfaith Mission Ministry
Cornerstone Church partners with Interfaith Missions to provide food and fellowship to the homeless men in the Dover area. The goal of Interfaith is to provide food, shelter, counseling, and job-related helps in order to transition their guests from being homeless to being productive members of society. Our part in this ministry is to provide dinner for 40-50 men once a month. If you have any questions or if you would like to help prepare and/or serve our next meal along with others, please contact the church office at 302-678-3130.
Each summer, our youth are encouraged to participate in missions opportunities. In 2010 we went to Ocean City and worked with international students and children at local parks. We partnered with Lynn Davis and the ministry that they have there. Over 10 children/youth/adults got saved that week.
In 2011 we took 11 youth and 4 leaders to Ottawa, Ontario and worked very hard each day at homeless shelters, homes for handicap adults, local shelters and many other places. Together, with World Changers Inc. we helped transform many areas of that city.
In 2012 we went to Sunset Beach, NC and ministered to a church and it's community. We helped many widows and widowers with household chores, lawns, encouragement, and did a carwash, provided many materials and helped run a VBS.
In 2013 we went to Virginia Beach and served at Virginia Beach Beacon Baptist Church. We handed out around 3000 invitations for VBS, did lawn work, built a playground, spackled and painted the sanctuary along with many other projects.
In 2014, as part of our ReCharge summer camp week, we served at a farm in western Maryland which provides fresh vegetables to individuals and families who might not otherwise be able to afford them. We planted, weeded, and harvested for several hours each day for 3 days and had a blast doing it! We will be doing this again at this year's ReCharge camp and look forward to bringing some new students along with us to experience the blessing and fun of missions!
